Management & Audit

Multi-Jurisdiction Management System Audit ProgramCompleted an audit program covering thirty steel industry facilities located in 22 jurisdictions in the United States and Canada. Information collected during the audits provided a baseline for the development of an Environmental Health & Safety Management System. More

Biomedical Waste Feasibility Study, New Delhi, India. Conducted biomedical waste audits at several hospitals and nursing homes to characterize waste generation and management in the National Capital Region of India. The data was used in a study to assess the economic feasibility of constructing and operating a number of a centralized, user-pay, waste management and treatment systems. More

Management System Integration Training, India. Designed and delivered a two-day workshop covering how to integrate ISO14001 environmental management systems with health and safety management systems. The program was delivered to members of industry and government regulators. More

Tobacco Industry Compliance Audit. Performed environmental management system and compliance audit at two cigarette manufacturing plants. More

Environmental, Health & Safety Management System, Steel Industry. Development of an integrated EH&S management system for a number of steel manufacturing and distribution facilities. More

Environmental, Health & Safety Management Program, Toronto Transit Commission. Conducted EHS audits of TTC operations in one of Canada's largest audit programs. Designed a management system and related documentation and provided employee training. More

Engineering & Technical Services

Eco-Efficiency and Innovation Study, Brewing Industry. Conducted an engineering study of a brewery in Ontario to identify energy conservation and water use reduction opportunities. The results of the study identified more than $250,000 in cost savings. More

Wastewater Characterization and Management, Candy Manufacturing. Performed a wastewater characterization study to identify high BOD5 wastewater streams and a water use audit to identify water recycling opportunities. Study results were used as a basis for a sewer surcharge agreement with municipal authorities and to develop a long term strategy for cost efficient wastewater management. The study identified $14,000 in annual savings from reduction in water use. More

Emission Inventory & Dispersion Modelling, Printing Industry. Prepared engineering estimates of solvent emissions from a new gravure printing operation. Used dispersion modelling to predict ground-level concentrations of regulated VOC's. Prepared permit applications and consulted with the Ministry of Environment on the client's behalf. More

Petroleum Refinery Wastewater Treatment Optimization. Developed a unique methodology for evaluating and optimizing wastewater treatment operations at petroleum refineries. Statistical capability analysis and wastewater engineering principles were used to identify where performance improvements could be achieved, often without capital investment. A method of ongoing monitoring and control was also developed together with a training program for operators and engineers. More

Occupational Health & Safety

Health & Safety Principles and Procedures Training Workshop, Confederation of Indian Industry.  Designed and delivered a comprehensive two-week course covering the theory, principles and practices in managing health and safety programs in an industrial environment. More

Noise Impact Assessment, Automotive Parts Manufacturer (1997)

Measurement of A-weighted average noise levels to assess worker exposure and impact on community noise levels. A detailed isopleth map of in-plant noise levels was developed to illustrate where hearing protection is required and where controls would have the greatest impact. Community noise levels were evaluated against by-law limits. Frequency analysis was used to indicate control technologies and to identify which production equipment had the greatest impact on the community. More

Copper Mine Tankhouse Ventilation Assessment (1998-1999). Performed acid aerosol monitoring in three electrotwinning tank houses in northern Chile, South America on behalf of a ventilation system manufacturer. The monitoring data was used as input to the manufacturer's computer model for analyzing the performance of the tank house ventilation assessment. More

Ventilation Assessment & Preventive Maintenance Plan, Government Laboratory

Study to assess the effectiveness of laboratory ventilation equipment against recognized standards. Tests were conducted on both the exhaust fans and collection equipment, including fume hoods, collection hoods, etc. Duct velocities were measured using pitot tube and manometer and compared with rated fan capacities. Tests conducted at the capture devices included the measurement of face velocities and capture distances. As well, air current analysis was conducted to assess the impact of turbulence in and around the device on collection efficiency. Based on this engineering assessment, criteria for acceptable operation were utilized to identify equipment requiring upgrade. Also, a Preventative Maintenance Plan was developed to ensure that the equipment continued to remove contaminants effectively. The plan was based on manufacturers recommended maintenance practices and accepted industry practices. More

Occupational Health and Safety Compliance Audit, Manufacturing Facility

Project involved a detailed audit to assess compliance to occupational health and hygiene regulations and the clients policies. The investigation included the reviewed company industrial health policies, qualifications of on-site staff, training provided staff, and health surveillance programs. The chemicals used at the site were reviewed, and procedures for storage, handling and use of these materials assessed. Health and safety facilities (including ventilation equipment, safety showers, eye wash fountains, medical supplies, etc.) were evaluated to ensure that they were adequate for the operations conducted at the site. WHMIS and hazard communication programs were reviewed to ensure they conformed with regulated requirements. More

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Training. Conducted initial and refresher training required by WHMIS for numerous clients in a variety of industrial sectors including: petroleum, chemical, forestry, electrical utility, automotive, power transmission equipment manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and publishing.
