Canada Forgings

Client Name: Canada Forgings
Industry Sector: Metal Processing
Service Area: Energy & Water Efficiency
Project Number: 5816-17
Project Name: Canforge, a custom forging producer with two plants in Welland, enlisted Altech to evaluate their operations, and provide support in obtaining Green and Energy Savings program funding.
Project Description:

Canforge is a custom forging producer, which since 1912 has been producing specialty forgings for engineering and industrial applications covering heavy equipment, mining, power, energy, off-road transportation and other industries. Canforge operates two plants in Welland and hired to Altech conduct an inspection on site and evaluate three furnaces, which consume more than 2,000,000 m3 annually of natural gas, to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHS emissions and qualify for the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) SMART Green Programs, and receive direct funding for technology upgrades.

Altech evaluated the existing equipment, calculated the opportunity to reduce natural gas consumption as well as GHG emissions, and provided two recommended retrofit options to qualify for the CME SMART green program.

Canforge used Altech’s evaluation to determine the proposed second option retrofit system as a more efficient opportunity to reduce costs and emission, where the anticipated annual gas saving were 330,000 m3. This allowed Canforge’s participation in the CME funding program to support its capital project and receive 50% of the retrofit investment, totalling $100,000.
