Soltex

Client Name: Soltex
Industry Sector: Chemical & Petroleum
Service Area: Energy & Water Efficiency
Project Number: 5933-17
Project Name: Soltex Canada, a manufacturer of base components and chemical additives, partnered with Altech to explore opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and securing funding through government programs.
Project Description:

Soltex Canada (Soltex) manufactures high-quality base components, chemical intermediates, chemical additives and functional fluids. The facility’s chemical operations include mixing, blending, packaging and distribution. Soltex was undergoing a major re-equipping to significantly increase production throughput and improve product quality and was considering replacing two (2) old, inefficient steam boilers with newer, more energy efficient steam boiler systems.

Soltex partnered with Altech to evaluate the opportunity to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions and qualify for funding through the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME), Government of Ontario, Canada’s FedDev Ontario and FedNor Agencies’ SMART Green Programs, delivering direct funding to over 1,400 manufacturing projects in Ontario.

Altech’s engineers found that boiler upgrades were found to be a practical solution in terms of energy efficiency. The replacement of the two new boilers required significantly less energy due to improved heat retention, ultimately resulting in annual gas savings calculated at 21,000 m3 and GHG emissions reduction at 40 tonnes. The report provided Soltex with an opportunity to offset the costs of their new equipment with funding through the SMART green program.
